Amityville: The Red Eyes in the Dark – Spirits or UFOs?

Few haunted locations have captured the world’s imagination quite like 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York. Known simply as The Amityville Horror House, it has become a symbol of pure terror—a place where murder, tragedy, and the supernatural collided.

But hidden among the countless retellings of the Amityville story lies one of the strangest and most spine-tingling details: the glowing red eyes that George and Kathy Lutz claimed to see staring through their daughter’s bedroom window at night.

Most people dismiss them as demonic in nature… but what if the truth is even stranger?

The Lutz Family’s Terrifying Encounter

After moving into the house in December 1975, George and Kathy Lutz and their children reported a storm of paranormal activity—foul odors, cold spots, unexplainable noises, and violent outbursts of unseen forces.

But the moment that truly cemented the horror was when George spotted a pair of glowing red eyes in the dark, watching from outside. He described them as unblinking, fixed, and almost mechanical. They weren’t shifting like an animal’s eyes. They weren’t alive in the usual sense. They just… stared.

More Than a Demon?

Traditionally, these red eyes have been tied to demonic lore. Many believed they belonged to a malevolent entity conjured by the violence and tragedy inside the house.

But when investigators began digging deeper, something unexpected surfaced. Local residents recalled strange lights in the sky over Long Island during the same time period. Reports of UFOs—glowing orbs, silent crafts—began to overlap with the haunting timeline.

Was it possible that the infamous “red eyes” were not supernatural at all… but rather extraterrestrial?

Some researchers suggest that traumatic events—like the DeFeo family murders that occurred in the house just a year before the Lutzes moved in—can create energetic hotspots. These sites not only attract restless spirits but also something much stranger: watchers from beyond our world.

If UFOs are drawn to psychic disturbances, then Amityville would have been the perfect place. The murder of six family members, the grief lingering in the walls, and the terror of the new occupants may have acted like a beacon.

George Lutz himself said the eyes didn’t move, didn’t blink, and felt more like they were scanning him than threatening him. That description aligns more with a machine or an intelligence observing silently—not an animal, and not a ghost.

A Personal Parallel

I can’t help but share something from my own investigations. At a haunted site years ago, I too saw a pair of red, glowing eyes in the woods. They didn’t behave like anything organic. The air felt charged, humming with static. The silence was deafening. And then—gone, in an instant.

It left me wondering… just as the Lutzes must have:
Was I staring into the eyes of a demon… or the cold, watching gaze of something not human?

The Unsolved Mystery

To this day, no one can say with certainty what those eyes were. Demonic presence? Spirit manifestation? Or evidence that UFOs and haunting s may be more connected than we realize?

One thing is certain: whatever George Lutz saw, it was no trick of the imagination. The eyes were there. They were real. And they were watching.

My First Black Eyed Kids Encounters
